Dear AFSPA Member,
I hope you are staying healthy and prioritizing your mental well-being. As a reminder, our theme this year is “Physical Health Leads to Better Mental Wellness – A Link to a Better You.” I want to take this opportunity to mention how your healthy actions can earn you wellness rewards.
Don’t Leave Money on the Table
Taking the first “Simple Steps’ is a good start. You can earn $75 in wellness rewards after completing a health risk assessment (HRA), and another $100 for getting your physical exam and biometric screening through FSBP’s Simple Steps to Living Well Together program*. An HRA is a health questionnaire that provides a snapshot of your current health status that can help identify personal health goals. An annual physical exam and biometric screening assess your overall health and measure physical attributes such as blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol levels, height, weight, body mass index, and aerobic fitness. Because May is National High Blood Pressure Month, a month that raises awareness about the impact of hypertension, it is a good time to get these important screenings.
If you haven’t already, put a few minutes aside to complete your HRA online or call 866-533-1410 to complete it by phone. Don’t forget to schedule an appointment with your doctor for your physical exam and biometric screening.
*FBSP members must be age 18+ to earn incentive
It’s Okay Not to be Okay
May is Mental Health Month. Now that masks are optional at many locations and we are slowly beginning to socialize again, many of us are struggling with the mental and emotional recovery from the pandemic. But remember, that’s okay and you are not alone. FSBP offers various mental wellness programs and resources to give you the support you need whether it’s managing depression, emotional concerns, stress management, anxiety and more. I encourage you to seek out a program that can help.

Coming Soon – AFSPA Live
I am excited to announce a new monthly segment that’s about to premiere called, ‘AFSPA Live,’ an online show that provides an opportunity for AFSPA members to ask live questions and get real-time answers from AFSPA leaders and topic experts. Ask questions about AFSPA benefits and services or about previous ‘AFSPA Talks’ podcast topics/discussions. Our first ‘AFSPA Live’ show will air on Thursday, May 26. Look out for details about how you can participate.
Lastly, stay connected to all things AFSPA through our website news, blogs, newsletters, podcast, and social media channels. We cover a variety of interesting topics on all platforms, including our upcoming “Focus on AIP” series happening this month. We’ll have discussions about the difference between Critical Illness and Disability insurance, dental insurance options, financial wellness and more.
I hope you and your family continue to enjoy a safe and healthy spring season. As always, thank you for your trust and for giving us the opportunity to serve you.
