In today’s fast-paced world, where schedules are hectic and demands are high, neglecting our well-being to meet external obligations is easy. However, amidst the chaos, taking care of ourselves is not just a luxury but a necessity. This July, as we celebrate Self-Care Month and gear up for International Self-Care Day on July 24th, it is the perfect time to reflect on the significance of self-care and its profound impact on our health and happiness.
Tomorrow, June 21st, is the first day of summer! It’s the perfect time to focus on your health and well-being. Summer gives us the opportunity to embrace the heat while maintaining our health and wellness. The warm weather and longer days provide the perfect atmosphere for enhancing our health, enjoying outdoor activities, and making lasting memories with family and friends.
“At the American Foreign Service Protective Association, inclusivity in healthcare is a priority, with the Foreign Service Benefit Plan (FSBP) offering robust support for LGBTQ+ members. Through partnerships with Brightline, specialized provider search tools, mental wellness resources like myStrength™, and telehealth services, FSBP ensures accessible and culturally competent care. Coverage includes gender-affirming healthcare, supported by educational resources such as the AFSPA Talks podcast, demonstrating a commitment to comprehensive and inclusive healthcare for all members.”
Men live shorter lives than women. They are more at risk of violence, mental ill health, and, sadly, suicide. There are also additional hazardous behaviours such as smoking, drinking, and illicit drug use. The vast majority of workplace deaths occur in men.
We have finally made it to May flowers after enduring April’s showers and while we celebrate the beautiful things that May brings, we also want to shed light on a chronic autoimmune disease that affects more men than women: lupus.
Caring for someone with mental illness is a profound act of love and compassion, but it’s also a journey laden with challenges that can take a toll on the caregiver’s mental health. According to the Mayo Clinic, 1 in 3 adults in the United States is an informal or family caregiver. While the focus often remains on the well-being of the individual with mental illness, it’s equally essential to shed light on the silent struggles faced by those who provide care. The effects on the mental health of caregivers are multifaceted and profound, encompassing emotional, physical, and social dimensions.
